2017-18 Returning Student Scholarships

Alumni Association Student Leadership 

A scholarship for a full time student who is either a sophomore or junior with at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA.

Preference is given to a member of the Student Alumni Ambassador leadership  organization;demonstrated

leadership through involvement in campus clubs or associations, community activities or employment is considered.

Alumni Memorial

A scholarship for a student showing academic success funded by donations from MU Alumni. General

Scholarship Guidelines apply.

Borck-Wetmore

A scholarship created by B. Foster and Marlene Borck-Wetmore, for a sophomore who has at least a 2.8 GPA

and is aware of the importance of a college education; must have attained at least a B average in the

Math/Science field excluding Environmental Science.

Brown Music Theory

A scholarship for a student with the highest GPA during their first two years of Music Theory. Preference will

be given to a pianist.

Chemung Canal Trust

A need-based scholarship for a student residing in Chemung, Schuyler, Steuben or Tioga County in NY. The

student may also reside in an area serviced by the Chemung Canal Trust Bank.

Class of '54

Must be a Sophomore, Junior, or Senior majoring in education.

Class of '55

A scholarship established by donations from the Class of 1955 for full-time students entering either their 

junior or senior year with at least a 2.5 GPA.

Class of '56

A scholarship for a returning Education major established by donations from the Class of 1956; student must 

attain at least a 3.0 GPA.

Class of '58

A scholarship established by donations from the Class of 1958 to be used to off-set the cost of tuition or room 

and board; awarded to a returning student who has demonstrated financial need; must maintain at least a 2.75

GPA and is an upperclassman. Further consideration is given to non-traditional students.

Class of '59

A scholarship established by donations from the Class of 1959 to be used to off-set the cost of tuition or room

and board awarded to a student who has demonstrated financial need, maintains at least a 2.75 GPA, and is an

upperclassman. Further consideration is given to non-traditional students.

Dalmolen Political Science

 A scholarship for a Political Science major who demonstrates both financial need and devotion to community 

service.

Descartes French Scholarship

A scholarship for a student with academic excellence in french courses.

Dick Memorial 

A scholarship for a junior or senior with outstanding conducting or vocal performance skills. Selected by the

Music Department Scholarship Committee.

Emmon Sr. People First

A scholarship for a Pennsylvania resident who has financial need, at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA and 

community service; a letter describing community service involvement is needed.

Evans Family

A scholarship given to a grad student who is at least PT and has at least a 3.0 GPA. Preference is given to a

non-traditional student. General Scholarship Guidelines apply.

Ralph H Evans

A scholarship for a returning Business major from Tioga or Bradford County PA with at least a 3.25 GPA.

Gladys Frick-Weaver Nursing Excellence

An award for a senior Nursing major who has at least a 3.0 GPA.

Garrity Communications

A scholarship for a student majoring in communications, who has earned at least 32 credits, has a 2.75 

cumulative GPA and a 3.0 GPA in their major; must be active in departmental activities and/or service to the

university and/or community.

Ronald G. & Betty B. Goodwin Leadership

A scholarship for a resident of PA or the Southern Tier of NY. Students must be involved in leadership activities at Mansfield University and have at least a 2.65 GPA.

Heaps & Neff

A scholarship for a returning student who has excelled academically. General Scholarship Guidelines apply.

Hendricks '79 H2S

A scholarship for a student with demonstrated financial need with at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA. The recipient

will have a measurable commitment to community service; preference will be given to students who show

promise and potential as leaders on campus; students participating in athletics, band, chorus, or other student life

programs may be eligible for this award.

Human Resources Departmental

A scholarship based on both merit and need for a Psychology major who is emphasizing in Human Resource

Management. The student must have at least a 3.0 GPA; applications available through the HR Office.

Keller

A book award for a sophomore, junior or senior majoring in Nutrition who is also an active participant in the

Student Dietetics Association.

Kennedy/Cooper International

A scholarship for a full time international student with a minimum cumulative GPA of  2.7; contributions to the 

campus community by participating in student organizations, activities, forums, or other community

involvement projects is needed; preference will be given to students who demonstrate financial need.

Lee Music Education

A scholarship for a full time student majoring in Music Education with a special interest in voice and/or piano

and a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5; financial need is considered; a recommendation from your primary applied

teacher is required along with a resume indicating an interest in teaching, e.g. camp counselor, church choir 

director, currently teaching private lessons, etc.

Leiboff

A scholarship for a student majoring in Communications who also demonstrates financial need and has at least

a 3.0 cumulative GPA.

Loeschke Leadership Memorial

A scholarship created by the late Mansfield University President, Dr. Maravene Loeschke. The award is for a 

student who has at least a 3.0 GPA. Recipient must be a proven leader on campus and/or in the Mansfield

community.

Mabe Memorial

A book scholarship a student with a Women's Studies minor who demonstrates academic excellence and a

commitment to promoting women and gender issues.

Manning Athletic

A scholarship for a student who is either an MU basketball or baseball team player; recipient must be a senior

of good character as demonstrated by such things as grades, community and/or campus involvement and conduct

as a member of the MU basketball or baseball team and demonstrate financial need.

Mansfield Association of Educational Office Professionals (MAEOP) Book Award

A $300 book scholarship to be used at the campus bookstore sponsored by the University's Educational Office

Professionals; priority is given to a non-traditional student from Tioga County.

Mansfield Greek Book Award

Two book awards given to a fraternity member of both Sigma Tau Gamma and Sigma Alpha Epsilon; each with

the highest cumulative GPA's within.

Joseph Maresco Leadership

A scholarship created by former Vice-President of Student Affairs, Joseph Maresco, and his wife MaryAnn. The

scholarship is for a student with a minimum 2.5 GPA, and who makes a contribution to activities that serve the

University community.

Mason

Scholarships for graduating seniors majoring in Astronomy, Physics or Chemistry who plan on attending

graduate school.

Mattis Memorial Athletic

A scholarship for a junior or senior student athlete in good standing on any of the MU athletic teams; good

character as demonstrated by such things as academic performance, community involvement or campus

involvement outside of your participation in a sport and positive leadership; demonstrated financial need is 

considered and preference given to members of the fellowship of christian athletes.

Nancy C. Matylas Prutsman

A scholarship for a returning student who has excelled academically; general scholarship guidelines apply.

McConnell Choral

A scholarship for a full time, upper class female student with at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA; must be a  member

of the concert choir.

McInroy-Sheffer

A scholarship for a student who has registered for student teaching for either the Fall or Spring of the 2017-18

academic year; minimum 3.0 GPA; student must present themselves in a manner that promotes respect and a

positive image of teaching; student must write a position paper on the importance of character in the committed 

teacher and provide three letters of reference which speak to the student's character and commitment to teaching.

Melhuish Elementary Education

A scholarship for a full-time student majoring in Elementary Education who has earned at least 64 credits with at 

least a 3.30 cumulative GPA; a sophomore award (minimum of 32 credits); financial need is considered; must

submit a narrative describing his/her service and volunteer work and the reason for applying for this award.

Merryman Nursing

A scholarship for a student enrolled in the Nursing program with at least a 3.5 GPA; non-renewable.

Meyer

Scholarships available to FT students with at least a 3.0 GPA who demonstrate financial need; preference given

to sophomores; students must manifest promise or outstanding academic success.

Mulroy

A combination need and merit based $500 award for a Business major who is also a PA resident; preference 

given to a York County resident with potential to succeed.

Music 

Scholarships for upper class students who have at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA and who have completed 32 

credit hours.

I Mustafa

A scholarship for a female international student who has at least a 2.75 GPA and who has a demonstrated need; 

help for room and board costs.

Pennsylvania State Employees Credit Union (PSECU)

Scholarships for students with at least a 3.0 GPA. Preference is given to students who are members of PSECU;

general scholarship guidelines apply.

Phi Delta Kappa

A scholarship for a student who graduated from an area high school in the following counties: Bradford,

Lycoming, Potter, Sullivan, or Tioga, PA; must be enrolled in a teacher preparation program with at least 40 

credits and a 3.0 cumulative GPA.

Place Barnes Nursing

A scholarship for a Nursing student who has both need and at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA.

Psychology 

Two annual scholarships awarded to Psychology majors who demonstrate outstanding character, integrity, 

scholarship, and campus or community service; renewable for a second semester   based on academic

performance; must have at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA.

Pursell

A merit based scholarship for a Sprint Football player who has at least a 2.5 GPA; general scholarship 

guidelines apply.

Mary A. & Robert H. Rodine

Awards for full-time students who are from Lackawanna or Luzerne Counties; student must have at least a 3.0

GPA.

Ruck Music

A scholarship for students who are instrumentalist, vocalist, keyboard, performance, or music education majors

and have an overall GPA of at least 3.6; preference is given to a resident of Luzerne County, PA, then PA 

resident; must be a junior and a B in major applied instrument or voice and in all music theory and history 

courses; a reccomendation from major applied instrument or voice professor is required and must be active in 

service to the community through performance off campus, participation in service organizations and projects,

community outreach, etc. (submitted to the Music Department Scholarship Committee).

Seidel

A scholarship for a Psychology major in good standing with a GPA of at least 3.0; a student athlete playing

men's or women's basketball, women's softball, or men's baseball preferred.

Sheehe Math

A merit based award for a returning Math major; general scholarship guidelines apply.

Shirey-Cromley Yellow Ribbon

A merit based scholarship for a Veteran who has been honorably discharged with at least a 3.0 GPA.

Simonson-Price Book Award

A scholarship for a sophomore student majoring in Elementary Education; a minimum 3.2 GPA is required and

the student must have need; student's deportment should show a positive image of teaching and must be of 

exemplary character while exhibiting leadership qualities and participation in campus or community 

organizations.

Slabey

A scholarship for a Computer Science major with at least a 2.7 cumulative GPA; financial need is considered.

Soufan

A scholarship for an international student with at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA.

Richard Springman Memorial

A need-based scholarship for a returning CJA major with at least a 2.5 GPA and evidence of community service.

Karen Starner-Jacobson

Scholarship(s) honoring the memory of Karen Starner-Jacobson available to members of Delta Zeta Sorority

who have been sisters in good standing for at least one year. Successful applicants must be currently active 

within the chapter with at least a 2.7 GPA and have successfully competed at least 64 credits by the end of the

spring 2017 semester.

Stebbins Voice

A scholarship for a Music major created by the Mansfield Men's Chorus in honor of Carla Stebbins.

Study Abroad (Mansfield Way)

A scholarship for a student studying abroad. General scholarship guidelines apply.

Thomas 

A scholarship for a student majoring in nursing; must have financial need and at least a 2.75 GPA.

Tioga County Commissioners First Responders

Scholarships for Tioga County, PA residents who are also First Responders and majoring in Nursing, Criminal

Justice Administration, Biology, Geography/Geology, Safety Management or Natural Gas Production; must

have at least a 3.0 GPA and be an active volunteer firefighter or EMT.

Towers Memorial

A scholarship for a female Elementary or Special Education major who has at least a 3.0 GPA; students are 

selected based on service and commitment to teaching and must complete an application and essay about the

concept of service and demonstrate a strong commitment to  teaching and community service.

Tri-County/Claverack Rural Electric Cooperative

A scholarship for a full-time student who is a member or dependent of the Tri-County/Claverack Cooperative

and has financial need as demonstrated by the FAFSA; applications must be submitted through the local

Tri-County/Claverack office.

University Senate

A merit-based scholarship for a junior or senior with at least a 3.25 GPA who participates in extracurricular

activities.

Valts Athletic

A scholarship for a student athlete with financial need and at least a 2.0 GPA.

Welch Business

A scholarship for a Business major with at least a 3.0 GPA and demonstrated financial need.

Gladys B. Young Memorial

A merit-based scholarship for a Biology major who has at least a 3.5 GPA. 

Youth Leader

Merit based awards given to Tioga County, PA freshman who have had the honor of being chosen as a Youth Leader of Tomorrow.

 *This is not an all-inclusive list as we are continuing to work at finding monies for our students. In addition, a variety of scholarship opportunities may exist for specific majors directly through the department chairperson. Departmental Scholarships are available in:
