Federal Direct/Stafford Loan Exit Counseling

If you received any Federal Direct and/or Stafford Loans while attending Mansfield University and...

  • You have withdrawn from all classes at Mansfield University, or
  • You have dropped below half-time status (half-time is 6 credits for undergraduates or 5 credits for graduate students) at Mansfield University, or
  • You are transferring to another school, or
  • You have graduated or are graduating this semester from Mansfield University

You are required to complete an electronic interactive Direct/Stafford Loan Exit Counseling session. This is a Federal Regulation.

You will receive an email notification from Mansfield University reminding you to complete the Exit Counseling Session. To start the electronic interactive Exit Counseling session, you will need your Federal PIN# (used to e-sign your FAFSA). If you do not have this PIN#, go to www.pin.ed.gov and “Request a Duplicate”.

The Exit Counseling includes multiple quizzes to help you validate your understanding of the topics being covered. You will also be provided access to the U.S. Department of Education’s central database that stores information on all loans and grants made to you through the Department’s federal student aid programs.

This Exit Counseling session will…

  1. Help you understand your rights and responsibilities as a student loan borrower
  2. Inform you of the average anticipated monthly repayment amount based on the amount of loans you have borrowed,
  3. Review available repayment options,
  4. Suggest debt-management strategies that will help you manage repayment,
  5. Review the conditions under which you may defer or forbear repayment or obtain a full or partial forgiveness or discharge of a loan,
  6. Require you to provide current name, address, references, and driver’s license number, as well as your expected permanent address, the address of your next of kin, and the name and address of your expected employer (if known).

If you do not receive the Exit Counseling Required email before the end of the semester in which you graduate, please contact Robin Cheyney in the MU Financial Aid Office at rcheyney@mansfield.edu. Please use “Exit Counseling” in the Subject Line of your email.
